Altenew – Graffiti Scribble Stencil as Stitching Template

Hello there. I am so excited to share with you my very first blog post for Altenew. One of the techniques I love to use on my pages is hand-stitching. It adds so much texture without being overwhelming, which I like. Stitching templates can be created in different ways. Today I want to focus on using stencils as a guide.

The new Graffiti Scribble stencil is fun and very versatile. I created a diagonal design with it by using a mini ink blending tool and the Altenew Crisp Ink in Caramel Toffee. Once I had my background ready, I pierced holes in between the stencil lines and just stitched with white colored thread. I could have also stitched along the actual lines to give my layout a richer look, but I was happy with just that little bit of extra texture.

I then fussy cut the gorgeous floral piece and a few butterflies from one of the patterned papers in the Reflection Scrapbook collection. I adhered all the pieces down with foam dots for extra dimension.

My goal was to keep the layout clean and simple. I layered the photo with a variety of patterned papers from the same Reflection collection and just added a few embellishments and sentiments on the opposite corners of it to achieve a balanced look.

A few epoxy buttons and wood veneer birds finished my page.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my process and will give this technique a try. Thank you for stopping by. Have a great day!

One of the things I love about this stencils is that you can obtain three different images of the flower, allowing for a more natural and realistic look when it comes to layering. To start, I created several sets of the dahlia in a variety of colors. I used the following Altenew Crisp Inks: Mountain Mist, Volcano Lake, Rose Quartz, Puffy Hearts, Mango Smoothie, Warm Sunshine, Lavender Fields, and Midnight Violet.

I knew I wanted to use a white background for my page, so I decided to heat-emboss the edges of the flowers with some gold powder to make them stand out more. A layer of vellum, as well as some die cut dahlias, were added to create more interest and texture.

My idea was to concentrate most of the layering on the left side of the page. For the border, I cut some strips out of a few patterned papers that come in the Reflection Scrapbook collection, and adhered the dahlias down with foam dots. I love all the dimension this little step adds.

To keep continuity throughout the page, a few more flowers were added behind the photos.

Wood veneer butterflies and a few epoxy dots completed the layout.
