Altenew – Build-A-Flower: Cattleya release.

Hello, crafty friends. I am back today to share a project created with the new Build-A-Flower: Cattleya set. This flower is stunning, very detailed, and with several layers that allow for a very realistic look.

This release has another little surprise for you; starting this month all the new 6×8 and 4×6 stamp sets come with tri-fold insert cards showcasing lots of added inspiration, project ideas, printed layering guides, and other useful information. Now that was an exciting find! I didn’t know about it, the packaging looked a little different, but I didn’t realize what it included until I looked for the layering guide on the back of it. I couldn’t find it, and actually started panicking. LOL! It was only when I took the paper out of the plastic sleeve that I found out the genius idea Altenew had come up with. You’ll LOVE it! There are card examples, name of Crisp Dye Inks used, and the oh-so-necessary layering guide.

Let’s get back to my project, shall we?

The shape and size of the Cattleya in this set inspired me to create a bookmark for my mom. She loves reading, and also flowers, so I’m pretty sure she’ll appreciate this.

I started by stamping the image on smooth white cardstock with the following Crisp Dye Inks:

  • outline: Permanent Black Ink.
  • Flowers: Dew Drops, Aqualicious, and Teal Cave.
  • Leaves: Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades, and Evergreen.

I then cut it with the coordinating dies. To make it thicker and durable, I also die-cut the same shape five more times from 80lbs white cardstock, and glued all the layers together.

Next, the tag. I cut it out of a beautiful woodgrain patterned paper from the Reflection Collection, and embellished it with the Mandala Die design. I paper-pieced only some sections of the die-cut, which I then colored with pencils, trying to match the inks used for the flowers.

When that was done, I punched a hole in both the Cattleya and the tag, and inserted brown eyelets to pass some twine through and connect the two pieces.

Now the fun part! To celebrate this release, Altenew is giving away a $30 gift certificate to 6 lucky winners! Please leave a comment on the Altenew Card Blog and/or Altenew Scrapbook Blog  for a chance to win. 6 winners will be announced on the Altenew blogs on 8/8/2018.

Thank you for stopping by today! Have a happy one!
