Altenew – “So Happy” Layout

Hello, Altenew fans!

Today I’m sharing a layout that features a mixed media background using several Altenew products.

Mixed media is totally out of my comfort zone. Although I love the process of getting messy and creative with different mediums, I have a hard time working with a background that is not flat or having to wait a few hours for it to dry before finishing the page. This time, I just decided to put aside all my “issues” and just go with it.

I started by applying a white glittery texture paste to my cardstock using the Sketched Lines Stencil. I didn’t want it to be overwhelming; my goal was to give more interest to the page in a subtle way, so I just applied it toward the center, where pictures and embellishments would go. I then added ink splatters using two Altenew Ink Sprays: Pure White and Ocean Waves.

While waiting for the background to dry, I stamped flowers and leaves from the Garden Treasure Stamp Set with the following Altenew Crisp Dye Inks:

• coral flowers: Frosty Pink, Coral Berry, Grapevine, Fresh Lemon, Peach Perfect
• yellow flowers: Buttercream, Warm Sunshine, Grapevine, Coral Berry
• teal flowers: Sea Glass, Aqualicious, Galactic Stream, Coral Berry, Fresh Lemon
• leaves: Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades.

Next, I backed my pictures with vellum and patterned paper from the Reflection Scrapbook Collection before adhering them onto a large doily and finally onto the cardstock. I used foam adhesive to create dimension.

I arranged flowers and leaves around the photo, as well as toward the top and bottom of the page. To add an extra element of interest, I stamped the little flowers that come in the same stamp set here and there across the layout.

For my title, I inked a white cardstock with Frosty Pink and cut it using the Brush Alpha Die Set to spell “So happy”.

To finish the layout, I stamped some sentiments from the Forever and Always Stamp Set onto white cardstock and cut them in a banner-like shape. Enamel dots and a few more ink splatters gave extra detail and interest to the page.

I hope you’ll feel inspired to create a mixed media background with Altenew products. Even if it’s not “your thing”, like in my case, sometimes it’s fun to get out of your comfort zone and try new techniques and mediums.
