Altenew – Achieving Dimension On Your Layout

Hello there! Today I would like to share three easy tips on how to achieve dimension on your scrapbook pages.

If you have had the chance to check out my previous posts and projects, you may have noticed that my style is very clean and simple. I usually focus on one element or a few colors and repeat them throughout the layout to create continuity and achieve a cohesive look. Because of the simplicity of my pages, I found that a few easy tricks can really make a difference in terms of adding dimension and interest to them.

• Building Layers

This is my absolute favorite and can be achieved in a lot of different ways, that is with patterned papers, mixed media, ephemera pieces, washi tape. The possibilities are endless. I often layer cut files and die cuts to give the design more depth. For my layout today, I cut a beautiful clematis wreath twice. I chose white card stock for the bottom layer, and a gorgeous watercolor patterned paper included in the Reflection Scrapbook Collection for the top one. Vellum is also another option and I love the delicate touch it adds, but I decided not to use here.

• Have Fun With Your Elements
  

Play with your elements and don’t be afraid to modify them. Here I opted to adhere the first wreath directly onto the background, but fussy cut the flowers out of the watercolor one to obtain individual shapes. My goal was to make them look like they were floating on the page and create shadows and lots of dimension. Foam dots are a must-have in this case.

• Diversify Your Embellishments

Mixing up the type of embellishments you use adds extra texture and interest. Stickers, chipboard stickers, stamped images, and die cuts contribute to create dimension by adding different heights. The flowers you see here were fussy cut from the Doodled Lace Cover Die. I love the stitched details! I also heat-embossed several little flowers included in the Amazing You stamp set with Golden Peach Crisp Embossing Powder and scattered them all around the wreath. To match the colors of the layout, I water colored them by using inks.
