Pink Paislee – Patterned Paper Play: Love Your Smile Layout

Hello friends! New week, new theme on the Pink Paislee blog. It is all about patterned paper and how to have fun with it. I love incorporating lots of patterns and colors in my projects. Some of my favorite tools are cut files, punches, dies… anything that allows me to combine and layer paper on top of paper. It can be easy and fun, but sometimes the whole process of making sure the different designs all go together and everything flows as it should can be challenging. My solution to that is limiting your choices within the same collection which is already put together for you, or better, use papers that already feature more than one pattern and/or color. This is exactly what I did for my layout today.

First I layered a few large strips of patterned papers along the left side of the page. This not only created some separation from the busy background paper, but also helped with the placement of all the other elements. To soften the overall look of the page, I applied a thin coat of white acrylic paint to it.

The Oh My Heart collection features two patterned papers that include the perfect mix of colorful designs. I chose Paper 10 for the spiral flower cut file. Don’t you just love the burst of color it brings to the page? So many beautiful patterns seamlessly combined (heart eyes).

I decided to shape my photos using the outline of the same cut file. I find that this simple extra step brings all the elements together and adds a fun and playful touch to the layout. Clear floral stickers were layered behind the photos for the same reason. For the center of the flowers I used some hearts from the Oh My Heart ephemera pack. The Xs are from the Fancy Free chipboard sticker sheet.

I hope you’ll feel inspired today to use patterned papers in a fun way. It can be intimidating sometimes to find the perfect combination of colors and patterns, but with just a couple of tricks and some useful tools you can simplify the process and make it more enjoyable. Have a lovely day!
